Symptoms of failing diesel injectors
- Hard starting, especially cold, or excessive cranking
- Rough or lumpy idle that smooths out once warm
- White or black smoke from the exhaust
- A diesel knock or rattle that is louder than usual
- Noticeable loss of power and worse fuel economy
- Engine light with injector or fuel-rail pressure codes
Test before you replace
Injectors are expensive, so guessing is costly. We run a leak-back test and read live rail pressure and injector correction values on the scan tool to identify which injectors are actually out of spec. Often only one or two need attention rather than a full set.
Common rail systems are unforgiving about contamination, so we also check the fuel filter and look for water in the fuel — the cause of a lot of injector failures on utes that get filled at low-turnover stations.
