Power steering fluid leak repair on the Gold Coast

A puddle of reddish oil under the front of the car and a groan when you turn the wheel usually means the power steering system is losing fluid.

Where power steering leaks come from

  • High-pressure hose — the most common failure, and the cheapest fix
  • Return line and the crimped fittings at each end
  • Rack and pinion end seals, showing as wet steering boots
  • Pump front seal or a weeping reservoir
  • Cooler line corrosion on cars that live near the beach

Why you should not keep topping it up

Running the system low lets air in, and an aerated pump wears out fast. What starts as a $200 hose can become a pump and rack replacement if it is ignored for months. The groaning noise is the pump telling you it is starving.

If the fluid is dark brown or smells burnt, the system has been run low for a while and needs a flush along with the repair.

How we repair it at your place

We clean the area, pressurise the system and find the actual leak point rather than replacing parts on a guess. Hoses, lines and seals are replaced on site, the system is bled properly to remove air, and we road test to confirm the noise is gone and the steering is even in both directions.
