Questions we get asked on the road
Straight answers to the things customers ask us most. If yours is not here, just ring — a mechanic will pick up, not a call centre.
Where are you located?
We are based on the Gold Coast. Our workshop sits in Burleigh Heads, but the work happens at your place — home, work, or stranded on the side of the road. We cover the whole coast from Coomera down to Tweed Heads, seven days a week.
Are you a family business or a franchise?
We are a small family business. Buddy is the director and he is the one you will be dealing with — not a call centre and not a franchise. The bloke who answers the phone is the bloke who turns up.
Do I have to be home?
No, you do not have to be home. Plenty of our customers leave the keys hidden under a mat, in a lockbox, or with a neighbour, and they come back to a car that is fixed and ready to go. We will sort out the access with you over the phone.
Can you come out today?
Yes — we are normally ready to come straight away. Same-day callouts are what we do best. If you are stuck on the side of the road, call us and we will give you an honest eta on the spot.
How do you charge — job rate or hourly?
Most of our jobs are quoted, not by the hour. We look at the job, tell you what it costs, and that price is final — no surprises when the invoice lands. A smaller number of jobs are charged hourly, and we will tell you up front which way we are doing it before a spanner moves.
How much will the job cost?
This is a hard one to answer without seeing the car, because every job has its own variables. The last thing we want is to throw a number at you before we know the full story and then have you feel let down when the job turns out different. What we do promise is this: we give you the exact cost of any job before we start the work, so you know down to the dollar what you will be paying once the car is fixed. No guesswork, no shocks.
Will I know who is coming?
Yes. It is always a qualified mechanic who turns up — no apprentices learning on your car, no contractor we found online that morning. The same hands that diagnosed it are the hands that fix it.
Are mobile mechanics any good?
A good mobile mechanic is the same tradesman you would meet behind a workshop counter — same qualifications, same diagnostic gear, same torque wrench. The difference is the van. Around ninety per cent of what a workshop does day to day is servicing, brakes, batteries, starters, alternators, suspension and diagnostics, and every bit of that can be done in your driveway. The jobs that genuinely need a hoist and a workshop, we will tell you about honestly rather than have a crack in the street.
Are mobile mechanics cheaper than a workshop?
Usually, yes. A mobile setup does not carry the rent, the reception desk or the hoists that a workshop has to pay for every week, and that overhead has to come out of somebody's invoice. On top of the labour rate you also save the tow, the taxi, the lift from a mate and the day you would have burned dropping the car off and picking it up again.
Are mobile mechanics as good as a workshop?
For the work we take on, yes. We carry the same scan tools, the same service parts and the same experience, and we do not take on a job we cannot finish properly at the roadside. If your car needs a hoist, a press or a full engine strip, we will say so up front and point you the right way instead of leaving you with a half-done car.
Can a mobile mechanic do a full logbook service?
Yes, and it will not touch your new car warranty. We use manufacturer-spec oils, filters and parts, follow the schedule in your logbook, and stamp the book when we are done. Australian consumer law means a dealership cannot void your warranty just because someone else did the service correctly.
What can a mobile mechanic not do?
Anything that truly needs a hoist, a press, a wheel balancer or a tyre machine. Full gearbox rebuilds, tyre fitting, wheel alignments and heavy engine work belong in a workshop. Nearly everything else — servicing, brakes, batteries, starters, alternators, radiators, belts, hoses, sensors and diagnostics — we do at your place.
Do mobile mechanics do roadworthy safety certificates?
Yes. We do mobile safety certificates across the Gold Coast, at your home or work, so you are not driving an unregistered or unsold car across town to get it inspected. If something fails, we can usually put it right the same visit and issue the certificate on the spot.
Anything else?
If you are staring at a car that will not start, or you have got a question we have not covered, the fastest answer is a phone call. We are out on the coast most days, so there is a fair chance we are only a suburb or two away.
