What the law actually says
The ACCC has been explicit about this: a manufacturer cannot refuse a warranty claim purely because the car was serviced somewhere other than a dealership. Tying your warranty to their workshop is not permitted.
What the manufacturer can require is that the servicing follows their schedule, is carried out by a qualified person, and uses parts and fluids that meet their specification.
What a compliant logbook service needs
- Every item on the manufacturer's schedule for that interval completed
- Oil that meets the manufacturer's exact specification, not just the right viscosity
- Genuine or equivalent-quality filters and parts
- The logbook stamped, dated and signed with the odometer reading
- An itemised invoice kept as your proof
Keep your paperwork
If a warranty claim ever comes up, your stamped book and itemised invoices are the evidence. Keep them together, and photograph the stamped page after each service so nothing is lost with the car's paperwork.
The convenience part
A dealer service usually means a morning off work and a loan car if you are lucky. We do the same schedule in your driveway while you get on with the day, stamp the book, and give you the invoice on the spot. Call 0434 728 765 to book.
Broken down right now? We come to you on the roadside, 7 days.
